About Michael...
Winston Churchill once described Russia as a 'riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma'. He could have easily been speaking about one Mr. Michael Finney.

As a child, Michael was the life of the party. His warmth and energy delighted friend and family alike. Blessed with rhythm and an energetic curiosity his father once described as 'fucking annoying'. A bit of a nerd, Michael was known to read entire volumes of the World Book Encyclopedia cover-to-cover while 'Headline News' droned on in the background. After moving to the cultural bathysphere known as Newtown, Michael nonetheless squandered a somewhat decent public education and promptly flunked out of college a few years later.

Desperate for a success, he tried to recapture past glory by reforming his high school rock band Jose Cruz. They never charted. He has recorded seven rap albums with close friend and fellow Communist JayROCK, which have all met with little fanfare.

Onward, wage-slave! After the college debacle, Michael finally found the meaning of life (not to mention gainful employment, too) in the wonderful world of retail. While getting into a habit of burning bridges with some of his employers, it was these years in retail that honed Michael's rapier wit. Having to deal with the public at large on a daily basis filled Michael with contempt for his fellow man, a seething mistrust and disgust that lingers to this day.

But seriously! Get to know him and he is a pretty funny guy! He told this author that he'd never have become the writer he is today without that hatred, seemingly ready to boil over at any minute.

(The author notes, however, that hidden somewhere deep inside Michael's gruff and ornery exterior is another Michael, the true Michael, whose exterior is slightly less gruff and ornery. Inside that Michael, there is caramel and nougat. Yum!)

In between dead-end jobs, Michael found himself an integral member of the Denver, Colorado DA's Office investigation into the murder of JonBenet Ramsey. He was however asked to leave after a few months due to 'conflict of interest'. Since then he has become quite the 'true crime' buff. Ask him about his weird and silly theories regarding Tate/LaBianca, OJ, Jeffrey MacDonald and other landmark cases! He is working on a new theory regarding JFK as well. His take? Kennedy was never shot and lives to this day!

When Al Gore invented the Internet in 1999, right in time for his failed bid for the White House, Michael finally found a canvas on which to paint his words. After playing around for a few years in AOL chat rooms pretending to be a police offer (pretending to be a small child) in attempts to lure sex goofballs out of the basement and into police custody, Michael decided to start his own website.

Thanks to all of his brother Scott's hard work, ARFMagazine.com launched in 2002 to a smattering of applause and myriad inside jokes. Farley was there, too.

Over the years, Michael has posted over 6700 times on ARF. Sad, really. His articles have run the gamut from a pro-Tom Cruise piece to a tourist brochure for the Baghdad Marriot. In late 2004, he started blogging semi-regularly and has yet to apologize for this.

In 2005, he learned how to podcast. He hasn't looked back.

I took the liberty to show some of Michael's work to noted criminal psychologist Starr Jones, who shared this insight:
"Michael suffers from chronic schizophrenic episodes, honey, sometimes lasting three to four days at a time. Sometimes he thinks he is God, sometimes he thinks he is a fictional character from the Matthew Lillard film 'SLC Punk'. Sometimes he even thinks he is Prince Paul's altar-ego, baby. He would benefit from being removed from society altogether for a prolonged course of treatment in s faith-based environment, like, say, Scientology. He seems like a nice enough young man at times, but let's just say I wouldn't let my daughter date him! Not because he is crazy, but because my daughter... if I had one, that is - is black."

In his spare time, Michael has written almost 2 novels. Neither of them are dark, brooding police procedurals, but his next one might be. He has also written two as yet unsold screenplays. He plans to think about writing another screenplay in the spring. Word is that Paris Hilton is interested...

Despite a last minute attempt to block this unflattering portrait of the lead anchor/creator of THIS OLD PODCAST, Michael - reading over my shoulder as I type this - gives my little 'bio' two thumbs up.
